Getting to Know Chaconet, Our Network of Nine Charity Homes

Across the Archdiocese of Kampala, a network of charity homes works together to care for some of the community's most vulnerable people. It's called Chaconet, and it brings together charity homes, Caritas Kampala, and the Good Samaritan Fraternity, all working toward the same goal: transforming lives and creating hope for those who need it most.

Chaconet's mission is to transform lives by creating safe, nurturing homes and empowering vulnerable communities through compassionate support, education, and sustainable programmes. In practice, that means fostering collaboration between member organisations, sharing best practices and resources, building the capacity of partner organisations through training, coordinating volunteer and fundraising efforts, and advocating for vulnerable populations.

The network currently includes nine members, each serving a specific community:

Caritas Kampala Charity Office

Archdiocesan Good Samaritan Fraternity

Child Welfare and Adoption Society (CWAS), including its four centres: CWAS Head Office, CWAS-Nsambya Babies Home, CWAS-Kankobe Children's Home, and CWAS-Nateete Family Group

Teresa Ministries Uganda

Missionaries of the Poor, Uganda

Kyasira Home of Hope

Mapeera Bakateyamba Home, Nalukolongo

Mulago School of the Deaf

Many communities across the region face real and overwhelming challenges, high orphan rates, limited access to healthcare and education, homelessness, and social exclusion among them. These challenges can trap vulnerable individuals in cycles of poverty and despair.

Chaconet's response is built on nine charity homes, each tailored to address specific needs, providing shelter, education, healthcare, and empowerment, alongside holistic support such as livelihood assistance, food, clothing, bedding, psychosocial care, and skills training. Together, these efforts form a cohesive, community-driven approach to lasting change.
